Prescription Policy
Prescribing Authority
All prescriptions at Psychiatry Telemed are written by board-certified psychiatrists licensed in the state of Florida. Prescriptions are based on clinical judgment following a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and are never written without appropriate clinical assessment.
Controlled Substances
Prescribing of controlled substances (Schedule II–V) through telehealth is subject to Florida state regulations and DEA requirements. Certain controlled substances may require: an established patient-provider relationship, periodic in-person evaluation (per Florida law), adherence to prescription monitoring program requirements, and regular follow-up appointments. Your psychiatrist will discuss any controlled substance-specific requirements during your evaluation.
Prescription Refills
Prescription refills are managed during your monthly medication management appointments. If you need a refill between appointments, contact us through the patient portal. Allow at least 48 business hours for refill requests. We cannot guarantee same-day refills for between-appointment requests.
Pharmacy
Prescriptions are sent electronically to your preferred pharmacy. Please provide your pharmacy name, address, and phone number at your first appointment. You may change your pharmacy at any time by contacting our office.
Medication Discontinuation
Never stop taking a prescribed psychiatric medication abruptly without consulting your psychiatrist. Many psychiatric medications require gradual tapering to avoid withdrawal effects. If you wish to discontinue a medication, discuss this with your psychiatrist at your next appointment or contact us through the patient portal.
