Understanding MAT
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) combines FDA-approved medications — including buprenorphine, methadone, and naltrexone — with counseling and behavioral therapies to treat substance use disorders. MAT is considered the standard of care for opioid use disorder and has strong evidence for alcohol use disorder as well.
Important Note
Psychiatry Telemed does not currently provide MAT, including Naltrexone, Suboxone/buprenorphine, or methadone. Our addiction psychiatry services focus on treating the co-occurring psychiatric conditions — depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder — that frequently drive and maintain addictive behavior. If you need MAT specifically, we can provide referrals to appropriate providers.
How Addiction Psychiatry Complements MAT
Many patients receiving MAT through specialized addiction programs also need psychiatric care for co-occurring conditions. Psychiatry Telemed can serve as your psychiatric provider alongside a MAT program, managing the depression, anxiety, trauma, and mood instability that exist alongside (and often predate) the substance use disorder.
The SAMHSA reports that approximately 9.2 million adults experience both a mental illness and substance use disorder simultaneously — making integrated treatment essential.
Why Psychiatry Telemed
Florida faces one of the most acute psychiatric provider shortages in the nation. Mental Health America consistently ranks Florida among the lowest-performing states for mental health access, with high rates of adults experiencing mental illness who receive no treatment. Traditional psychiatric practices compound this problem with 4–8 week waitlists, insurance gatekeeping, and geographic barriers that make care inaccessible for millions of Floridians.
Psychiatry Telemed was built specifically to address these systemic failures. Our virtual-first model eliminates geographic barriers entirely — any Florida resident with a device and internet connection can access a board-certified psychiatrist within 1–3 business days. Our transparent cash-pay pricing ($200 initial evaluation, $100 follow-ups) removes insurance uncertainty. And our commitment to provider continuity — the same psychiatrist at every appointment — ensures the kind of consistent, relationship-based care that produces the best clinical outcomes.
Every aspect of our practice is designed around patient access: rapid scheduling, flexible appointment times, no commute, no waiting room, and the complete privacy of receiving care from your own home. The American Psychiatric Association has endorsed telepsychiatry as an effective and appropriate model for psychiatric care delivery, with research consistently demonstrating outcomes equivalent to in-person treatment.
What to Expect From Your Care
Your care at Psychiatry Telemed begins with a comprehensive 60-minute psychiatric evaluation — the most thorough and important conversation you’ll have about your mental health. Your board-certified psychiatrist will explore your symptoms, personal history, family background, medical conditions, current medications, and life circumstances to build a complete clinical picture. You’ll leave with a working diagnosis, an individualized treatment plan, and — if clinically appropriate — a prescription sent to your pharmacy the same day.
From there, monthly 30-minute medication management follow-ups ensure your treatment is actively monitored and optimized. Your psychiatrist tracks medication efficacy, manages side effects, adjusts dosages based on your response, and refines your overall treatment strategy as your needs evolve. You will see the same provider at every appointment — this continuity is not a convenience, it is a clinical requirement for effective psychiatric care.
Between appointments, established patients can communicate with our office through the secure patient portal. If you’re experiencing worsening symptoms between scheduled visits, contact us and we will accommodate an earlier appointment when possible. All communication and care delivery is protected under federal HIPAA regulations.

Research and Evidence Base
At Psychiatry Telemed, every treatment recommendation is grounded in the best available clinical evidence. We follow treatment guidelines published by the American Psychiatric Association, the National Institute of Mental Health, and peer-reviewed psychiatric literature. This evidence-based approach ensures that our patients receive treatments with demonstrated efficacy — not trends, not fads, not unproven interventions.
The evidence base for psychiatric treatment continues to evolve as new research emerges. Our psychiatrists stay current with the latest clinical literature, attend continuing medical education, and integrate new evidence into practice as appropriate. This commitment to ongoing learning ensures that your care reflects the current state of psychiatric science, not outdated protocols.
When discussing treatment options with you, your psychiatrist will explain the strength of evidence behind each recommendation — helping you understand not just what treatment is proposed, but why, and what the clinical data supports. This transparency is part of our commitment to informed, collaborative care.
How This Treatment Fits Into Your Overall Care
No single treatment modality exists in isolation. Your psychiatric care at Psychiatry Telemed is designed as an integrated system: your initial evaluation establishes the diagnostic and clinical foundation, your treatment plan draws from evidence-based pharmacological and therapeutic approaches tailored to your specific needs, and monthly medication management appointments provide the ongoing monitoring and optimization that produces the best outcomes.
When multiple treatment approaches are indicated — for example, medication management combined with CBT therapy, or mood stabilization alongside DBT skills training — your psychiatrist coordinates across modalities to ensure coherent, non-contradictory care. This coordination is particularly important when patients are seeing both a psychiatrist and a therapist, as treatment strategies need to be aligned and mutually reinforcing.
The consistent provider relationship at Psychiatry Telemed — the same board-certified psychiatrist at every appointment — ensures that your care trajectory is understood in context. Your psychiatrist knows your history, has observed your treatment response over time, and can make informed clinical decisions that a new or rotating provider simply cannot. This continuity is not a convenience; for many conditions, it is a clinical necessity.
Integrating Treatment Into Your Life
Effective psychiatric treatment doesn’t exist in a vacuum — it needs to integrate into the reality of your daily life. At Psychiatry Telemed, we understand that our patients are not just diagnoses; they are working professionals, parents, students, caregivers, and community members with complex lives and competing demands. Treatment plans are developed with this reality in mind.
The telepsychiatry model inherently supports treatment integration. Appointments happen from wherever you are, on a schedule that works for your life. There is no commute eating into your workday, no childcare to arrange, no waiting room time to account for. Monthly 30-minute follow-ups are designed to be substantive yet efficient — respecting your time while providing the clinical depth your care requires.
Your psychiatrist will also help you understand how lifestyle factors — sleep quality, physical activity, nutrition, stress management, substance use, and social connection — interact with your psychiatric treatment. These are not add-ons or afterthoughts; they are integral components of a comprehensive treatment approach that produces the best possible outcomes. Small, sustainable changes in daily habits can significantly amplify the benefits of medication management.
Between appointments, established patients can communicate with our office through the secure patient portal for non-urgent questions, medication refill requests, or to report significant changes in their condition. This continuity of communication ensures that you are never truly “between” care — your treatment relationship with your psychiatrist is ongoing and responsive.
